Drive Safely on Super Bowl Sunday
Law enforcement officials and safety advocates are encouraging Southern California Super Bowl party-goers to plan ahead for the big day by designating a sober ride home – be it a taxi or a friend.

In Los Angeles County, the increased risk is 57 percent and in San Diego County, it is 117 percent, according to the Auto Club’s analysis of data from the California Highway Patrol. In California, there were 294 fatal and injury crashes on Super Bowl Sundays versus 166 for the comparable other Sundays. In Los Angeles County, there were 77 fatal and injury crashes on Super Bowl Sundays versus 49 on the comparable other Sundays. In San Diego County, there were 40 fatal and injury crashes on Super Bowl Sundays versus 18 on the comparable other Sundays.
Preventing DUI Collisions
The best way to prevent a DUI collision is to not drive drunk. If you will be partying this Super Bowl Sunday, whether it’s at someone’s home or in a bar, make sure that you have a sober ride home. Contact a ride-sharing service or use a taxi. If those are not possible, the Auto Club will be offering its Tipsy Tow service free of charge from 6 p.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday. Tipsy Tow is available throughout California through AAA. You don’t have to be an AAA member to take advantage of the service.
To get a Tipsy Tow ride, motorists, bartenders, restaurant managers, party hosts or passengers of a drinking driver may call 1-800-400-4AAA for a free tow home of up to seven miles. The Auto Club’s free service transports both the driver and his or her vehicle. For rides farther than seven miles, drivers will be expected to pay the rate charged by the tow provider.
As California personal injury attorneys who represent DUI crash victims, we strongly urge everyone to take advantage of this excellent service that is available in their communities. Do not drive drunk. Do not ride with someone who has been drinking. We hope you have a safe and enjoyable Super Bowl Sunday!
