Deadly Halloween Friday In Orange County
Four people were killed in two separate accidents involving Halloween trick-or-treaters in Orange County.
According to reports in the Orange County Register, the first incident occurred around 6:45 p.m. Friday at the intersection of North Jacaranda Street and Fairhaven Avenue in Santa Ana.
Three teens, two of them twins, were hit by a Honda CR-V, whose driver fled the scene. The three girls, all 13, were crossing north to south in a crosswalk.
Police are still looking for the hit-and-run driver. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Santa Ana police at 714-245-8665.
In another incident, 65-year-old John Roger Alcorn was killed and his 4-year-old son was critically injured after they were both struck by a vehicle while crossing near West Yale Loop and Burwood Street in Irvine around 7:15 p.m.
In this case, the driver stopped and remained at the scene. Anyone with information about this crash is asked to contact Irvine police at 949-724-7024. The investigation is ongoing.

Based on this news report, it appears that the all of the victims in these cases were trick-or-treating and were struck by vehicles. In the Santa Ana incident, witnesses say that the Honda that struck the girls was speeding through the intersection.
The trick-or-treaters were walking in a crosswalk.
Under California Vehicle Code 21950 (a), motorists are required to stop and yield the right-of-way to pedestrians in crosswalks. In the Irvine incident, officials are still looking into who had the right-of-way.
Also under the law, all motorists are required to stop immediately and remain at the scene of an injury or fatal crash.
We certainly hope that the hit-and-run driver in the Santa Ana case is apprehended and brought to justice.
