Chrysler Recalls Rams and Jeeps for Loose Windshield Wipers
Chrysler has recalled about 554,000 Ram 1500 trucks and Jeep Compass SUVs because the wiper arms may come loose and cause drivers vision problems while driving in the rain. According to a report on Car Complaints, Fiat Chrysler says 2019-2020 Ram 1500, Ram 1500 Classic and 2019-2020 Jeep Compass vehicles may have been equipped with wiper arm head joints that were improperly formed during the manufacturing process.
Details of the Recall
This may not properly form the splines of the head joints on the wiper arms, which allow the joints to strip. Kicking the wipers on won’t properly clean the windshields and drivers will also notice the wipers are not in their correct resting positions. FCA noticed an uptick in warranty claims in January relating to loose windshield wiper arms on Ram 1500, Ram 1500 Classic and Jeep Compass vehicles.
Engineers looked into the problem and Chrysler found 439 warranty claims had been received by March 26. The automaker says there have been no reports of car accidents or injuries relating to these loose wipers. Chrysler dealerships will tighten the wiper nuts when the recall begins May 29, 2020.
However, the automaker says consumers should contact a dealer immediately if their vehicle’s wipers are loose. Ram 1500, Ram 1500 Classic and Jeep Compass owners with questions are urged to call 800-853-1403 and ask about windshield wiper recall number W25.
Auto Product Liability Issues
Auto defects may occur during the manufacturing process or during the vehicle design process. Regardless of when the defect occurs, it is the automaker’s duty and responsibility to issue a prompt safety recall and make the necessary repairs at no charge to consumers.
If you or a loved one has been injured as the result of a dangerous or defective vehicle, you may be able to seek compensation for damages including medical expenses, lost wages, hospitalization, rehabilitation, pain and suffering and emotional distress. Victims or families can file a product liability lawsuit against the automaker or the manufacturer of the defective part seeking compensation for their losses.
