California’s Most Dangerous Intersection is in Northridge

A street intersection in the city of Northridge has been labeled the most dangerous in the entire state of California. According to a CBS Los Angeles news report, Time magazine looked at 10 years of data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the intersection of Devonshire Street and Reseda Boulevard is the most dangerous in California. A team from the Institute of Sustainability at Cal State Northridge arrived at the same conclusion. They used data from the Traffic Injury Mapping System.

Researchers looked at data from 2006 to 2016 and found 108 traffic accidents at this intersection alone. There were 29 children under the age of 14 who were victims at this intersection as a result of some type of vehicle accident or injury. The posted speed limit at the intersection is 40 mph. Researchers say drivers tend to speed on these roadways and sometimes drive as if it were a freeway.

Accidents at Street Intersections

Street intersections are some of the most dangerous locations for auto accidents. There are a number of causes of accidents at street intersections. Some of the most common include speeding, running a red light or a stop sign, making an illegal or unsafe turn and failing to yield the right of way.
