Basketball Ball Player Files Lawsuit Claiming Injuries from Exploding Battery Ended His Career

A man filed a personal injury lawsuit against LG claiming that injuries he suffered from an exploding phone battery have ended his basketball career. According to news reports, the man says he was holding an LG K20 Plus phone in his right hand in May 2019 when it suddenly exploded and caused serious and permanent injuries. He says he has suffered electrical burns, swelling of the muscles, nerve damage, chemical burns and an inability to fully extend his fingers. LG is investigating the incident, but has not determined what caused the explosion.

Loss of Basketball Career

The plaintiff said prior to his injury, he played college basketball at Mars Hill University in North Carolina. Even though he graduated in 2013, he continued to play basketball overseas. His lawsuit alleges that defendants LG Electronics Inc., T-Mobile and MetroPCS manufactured and sold a dangerous and defective phone, which caused his injuries.

He is seeking monetary compensation for his injuries, medical expenses, future treatment, reduced quality of life and lost wages. LG and T-Mobile are not the only phone manufacturers to be hit with lawsuits over exploding phone batteries. Samsung is also facing several lawsuits after it recalled the Galaxy Note 7 due to explosions.
