Angels Outfielder Mike Trout Involved in Orange County Car Accident
Angels outfielder Mike Trout was involved in a major injury car accident in Santa Ana the night of August 31, 2016 involving three vehicles. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the injury collision occurred when Trout swerved and hit a Chevy Sonic that had slowed to a stop on the southbound 55 Freeway. The Sonic then struck a GMC Suburban before bumping a fence.
California Highway Patrol officials said Trout ran to check on the welfare of the Chevy’s driver, a 28-year-old woman, who was later transported to the hospital with what were described as major injuries. Typically, in such reports, a major injury means that the individual suffered broken bones and lacerations, but not life-threatening injuries. Officials do not believe alcohol or drugs played a part. No citations or arrests were reported. Trout did not suffer any injuries, according to his agent.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the seriously injured victim. We wish her the very best for a speedy an complete recovery.
Accident Statistics
There were 24 fatalities and 1,632 injuries involving car accidents in the city of Santa Ana in 2013, according to CHP’s statistics. In Orange County as a whole, 165 people died and 13,837 were injured due to traffic accidents during the same year.
Fault and Liability
Based on this news report, it is unclear as to why Trout could not stop his Mercedes Benz in time to avoid the collision. We trust officials will ask a number of questions here. They have already said alcohol or drugs were not factors. How fast was Trout going at the time of the collision? Was he distracted or inattentive at the time? Did any type of negligence play a part in this crash?
In such cases, drivers who are negligent can be held financially responsible for the injuries, damages and losses caused. Injured victims in such cases can seek compensation for damages including medical expenses, lost wages, hospitalization, rehabilitation, permanent injuries, pain and suffering and emotional distress. Injured victims would also be well advised to contact an experienced Orange County car accident lawyer who will remain on their side, fight for their rights and help ensure that they are fairly and fully compensation for their losses.
