About 256,000 Kobalt Cordless Saws Recalled for Laceration Hazard
Two different electric, cordless saws sold at Lowe’s stores nationwide and on the home improvement chain’s website are being recalled because they pose a laceration hazard. According to a USA Today news report, more than 256,000 saws are included in the two recalls posted this week on the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website. No injuries have been reported as a result of these recalled products. But, consumers are urged to stop using the recalled saws immediately and contact the distributor, Hongkong Sun Rise Trading for a free repair.
Details of the Recall
The recall alert says that in about 106,400 Kobalt brand 40-volt Lithium Ion 8-inch Cordless Electric Pole Saws, the switch can fail while under a heavy load and cause the unit to continue running even after the user releases the trigger, posing a laceration hazard to consumers. Another 150,000 Kobalt-brand 40-volt Lithium Ion Cordless Electric Chainsaws are also being recalled because the saws can remain “on,” according to the recall alert.
So far, there have been 48 reports of the switch contacts welding and causing the saw to remain in the on position. The chainsaws involved in this recall were sold from January 2014 through March 2020 for about $200. The pole saws were sold from March 2017 through October 2019 for about $180.
