88,000 Bluetooth Speakers Recalled for Batteries That Could Explode
ECOXGEAR is recalling 88,000 EcoBoulder Bluetooth speakers because the batteries may explode and send debris flying. According to a news report and a recall notice posted by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the company has so far received five reports of the speakers bursting. In two cases, the shrapnel was blamed for property damaged. But, there have yet to be any reports of injuries.
Details of the Recall
The recalled speakers are colored black with a rubber slip mat on top. Some versions have a brightly colored accent around the front speaker and a matching rubber slip mat. Each unit is about 20 inches tall and 15 inches wide. Users can find the model number inside a storage compartment on the left side of the speaker. The company said it sold about 88,000 speakers nationwide between 2016 and 2018.
The speakers were sold in stores such as Costco from October 2016-January 2017. They were sold at Academy Sports, Cabela’s, Home Depot, Best Buy, and Amazon.com from January 2018-December 2018 for about $180.
